The Top 10 Things Your Cat Wants For Christmas
Foolproof cat Christmas gift ideas
Did you know that people spend billions of dollars every year on their pets? You’re probably just nodding your head, acknowledging your portion of that contribution, right?!
Since the holidays are snowballing our way, I thought it would be fun to give you the “Dear Santa” list on behalf of your cat!
In David Letterman style we’ll work backwards. Get out your pencils and take notes because your fur baby is secretly smiling and looking over your shoulder to make sure you “get” it.
10. A cool kitty condo
Is Fluffy’s condo looking a bit worn and uninviting? Perhaps there are stains from places she threw up that just won’t come out? Kitty condos have come a long way these days, and cats just need a piece of furniture they can call their own–and something they can “legally” scratch on. It’s instinctual! And it’s your choice: they’ll either do it on your furniture or theirs!
9. A cozy, comfy bed
When they can’t–or won’t–sleep with you, they need a nice warm snuggly bed to curl up in. It’s all about territory, really, especially if you have multiple pets or children. If hers is covered in mystery stains or torn in places, it’s time to upgrade!
8. A clean litter box
Cats are meticulous about being clean. You know this because you see how often they bathe themselves and then leave you a nice fur ball to prove it! The litter box must be kept clean and stored in a low-traffic, quiet area. Scooping twice a day would be recommended. Cats are very sensitive to smells, so avoid litter that has a strong odor or added fragrance. Try using baking soda mixed in the litter to absorb odors. If your cat has a tendency to leave you “presents” outside the litter box or have accidents over the edge, try using Animal Relief Formula by FES Flowers. Spraying this in the box every other day will work wonders. It’s always helpful to get to the root of the problem or condition if litter box avoidance is an issue in your home. If you’ve ruled out a medical condition, try an Animal Communication session with our cat whisperer, Lori Diebold! She’s amazing.😊
7. A carnivore’s cuisine
A biologically appropriate diet is at the very heart of your cat’s health. She is a carnivore and needs to eat high quality protein sources. Switching to a raw diet or a combination of raw, human grade and premium food will better her chances of living a long, healthy life. You can explore adding a variety of frozen or freeze-dried raw foods as treats or food toppers or rotating in higher quality food with the current brand you buy. Be sure to check the label and make sure your cat’s food does not contain any of the ingredients listed on our Optimal Nutrition page.
6. Fresh, filtered water daily
Does your cat have a fascination with the water faucet? While most cats don’t drink enough water, it’s imperative for their kidney health to incorporate ways to encourage them to do so. We purchased a pet water fountain, and our cats love it! Besides getting moisture from their food, providing a running water source generally appeals to a lot of cats, and they drink more. Having a reverse osmosis water filtration system does the best job in eliminating unwanted metals, flouride, chlorine and other contaminants found in tap water. It will benefit both your cat and you!
5. A box
Any size will do. This provides hours of entertainment for both your cat and you. Enough said!
4. His/Her own Instagram account
Why should all those other cats be famous and not yours? I love looking at all the kitties I follow on Instagram–it’s like being a part of each others lives and having a sense of connection to kitties all over the world. It warms my heart and makes me laugh. Admit it–you already act like paparazzi around your cat, snapping photos on your phone everyday, right? Share them! Your cat could be as popular as Smoothie, Milkshake, Coby the Cat, Grumpy Cat, Goal Kitty (aka Keys) or even Cheese and Olive! Plus, it’s almost as good as adding another cat member to your family. Almost. 😻 Have you checked out ours yet?
3. The latest and greatest interactive cat toy
Let’s face it: there are tons of cat toys on the market, and most just end up in a basket or box, unused. Take advantage of the opportunity to have fun bonding with your cat with interactive play! The Neko Flies are some of my cats’ favorites and are sure to be a hit with yours, too, because they look like real bugs and are extremely well made. Just about any cat has trouble resisting flying feathers, mice or “bugs” attached to a wand and string.
2. Freeze-dried cat treats
It’s probably the first word your cat learns: treats! While treats can be fun and tasty, it’s still important to remember that not all ingredients are good for your cat! Learn to read labels and select treats that have a limited ingredient list that includes real meat avoids the list of offenders. Try out some freeze-dried raw treats that are made with organs and meat and see that wild carnivore side of her come out!
1. Quality time with you
Quality time is by far your cat’s number one thing on her wish list. Whether you’re curled up on the couch watching TV, reading a book, working on the computer, or snuggling together at night, this is a wonderful bonding experience for you both. It’s the very best part of being owned by a cat. It doesn’t cost you a dime, and the returns are priceless!
